A cup of coffee that I had the other day |
When I was young I would have never thought of touching
coffee, until I reached the age of 19 and moved away from home for the first
time to live with my friend about 200 miles away. This is where I met one of my
now best friends; we shall call him
Quincella. He and I were stuck at the hip, so to speak. He was still in high school and I was working
part time, so I would pick him up every day from school and take him to his
house where he would make his usual 3 cups of coffee. He drinks more coffee
then anyone I have ever met. I asked him why and he responded with, “I got
it through the umbilical cord, and my mom use to dip my binkies in coffee so I
would stop crying, so now I drink it every day. You wouldn’t want to meet me on
a day I haven’t had my coffee. I drink at least one pot a day”. With that he grinned
at me like a sly fox (his nickname-sake. We often call him Quincella the
Fawkes). One of the first times I went to Quin’s house he was making coffee and
offered me a cup and I declined, saying “I’m
sorry I don’t drink coffee.” Quin was surprised, but then that sick little fox
mind started whirling. “You haven’t had my coffee.” He grinned evilly and
started pulling out all kinds of creamer and powders, he mixed his concoction then placed it in
front of me. “Try that” he said, seemingly quite proud of himself. “But Quin, I
don’t like coffee.” I disputed. “Just drink it.” He was determined, and I
finally gave in and took a sip. The moment the flavors of coffee, sweetener,
creamer, and chocolate pranced across my taste buds, I simply couldn’t believe
it; I have never tasted anything so perfectly mixed. I asked what it was, and
all Quin said was “Mocha, you like it?” I was hesitant to tell him the truth
but I nodded and drank some more. Ever since
that day I have considered myself a coffee drinker, and it is one of my
favorite things. Now that I have moved back home for school, I still drink
coffee. But it makes me miss Quincella, who I often refer to as my little
brother.

I’ve
been spending quite a lot of time with my friend (the same who dragged me to
the far corners of the map to begin with), who is fellow coffee lover as well.
Two days ago her grandma (whom she lives with currently) received the mother of
all coffeemakers: A Keurig one cup. Holy god this is the greatest thing EVER
invented, and it produces better coffee than what I could have ever paid for at
a shop. I can’t wait for Quin to come
visit and enjoy this amazing piece of technology with me.
Never heard of coffee referred to as technology...
ReplyDeleteI was referring to the Keurig Coffee maker http://www.keurig.com/
DeleteOh, yes I have heard of those. I was thinking about getting one.
